Tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou recently shared his thoughts on the ongoing debate about Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz possibly surpassing the legendary Big 3—Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic. With a collective 66 Grand Slam titles, the Big 3 defined men’s tennis dominance. However, 2024 has shifted focus toward Sinner and Alcaraz, who claimed this season’s four Grand Slams and appear likely to end as world No. 1 and 2.

Mouratoglou notes that while Sinner and Alcaraz are “the two best by far at the moment,” comparing them to the Big 3 remains complex due to their unique styles. “Carlos can do anything,” Mouratoglou explained. “He almost has too many choices, making him super aggressive but also leading to more unforced errors.” He praised Alcaraz’s versatility, noting strengths in forehand and backhand but acknowledged a contrast in precision compared to Sinner.

Mouratoglou described Sinner as “a machine,” underscoring his strategic play. Known for his ability to reduce opponents’ response time and hit with power and accuracy, Sinner’s disciplined approach offers a distinct edge. While Alcaraz boasts versatility, Sinner’s control and efficiency—particularly in his movement—set him apart, emphasizing their differing paths to success.

This debate initially sparked when Mats Wilander suggested that Alcaraz and Sinner’s play could potentially exceed the Big 3’s standards. Mouratoglou’s take adds that while the young players are redefining the sport, placing them on par with the Big 3 may require sustained, long-term dominance in Grand Slam titles.
