Denis Shapovalov has advanced to the Swiss Indoors Round of 16. In Tuesday’s second round of the hard court tournament, he defeated Shang Juncheng of China 6-1, 6-4. Shapovalov made three of six breakpoint attempts and fired 11 aces in the victory.

When the initial information regarding Jannik Sinner’s doping case was released to the public, Denis Shapovalov was among the first athletes to express his thoughts on social media. Even after a few weeks, the Canadian tennis player still criticizes the pertinent organizations, surpassing the Italian player’s stature.

Shapovalov explained in an interview about doping and said: “Some players have contaminated substances and are sanctioned for years, while others do not face the same consequences. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) should have intervened immediately. They should have issued a warning after the first positive test like WADA.”

He added: “Why are they intervening now? Sinner is now being tormented and has to compete under these circumstances. If the key individuals decided he was clean, then that should be in WADA’s guidelines. WADA should not be able to say months later, ‘No, we want to annul it now,’ if they already had the information. It’s just not clear to the players.”
