Due to an injury, former world No. 1 Naomi Osaka has withdrawn from the 2024 Hong Kong Open and will miss the remainder of the season.

The announcement was made by the Hong Kong, China Tennis Association before the October 28 tournament start date. Although Osaka expressed regret to her fans, she said she would still be watching the event.

Osaka expressed her thoughts about it and said: “I’m really sorry that I have had to withdraw from competing at the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open and the rest of this tennis season. I love visiting the tournament and despite the obvious disappointment of not being able to play, I want to reassure all my wonderful Hong Kong fans that I will still be attending the event. I am very much looking forward to meeting you all. There is a wonderful line-up of world-class players coming to the tournament and I want to wish them all the best of luck in this exciting event.”

Ahead of the tournament, Osaka was wished a speedy recovery by Peter Johnston, the director of International Events at the Hong Kong, China Tennis Association.

The Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open 2024 has a very competitive lineup of top players, including defending champion Leylah Fernandez, two-time Grand Slam champion and former world No. 1 Simona Halep, British No. 1 Katie Boulter, Wimbledon quarterfinalist Lulu Sun, and former US Open Champion Emma Raducanu, despite Naomi Osaka’s regrettable withdrawal.
