After an 11-month-long break due to pregnancy, Belinda Bencic has officially announced when she will resume playing tennis. Bencic will start as a wildcard at the 2024 Hamburg Ladies Cup, an ITF W75 competition that takes place from October 28 to November 3.
The Swiss player has not participated in any competitive tennis events since losing in the first round of the San Diego Open in September 2023. She and her partner, Martin Hromkovic, welcomed a daughter, Bella, into the world in April of this year.
The former world No. 4 is aiming for the Billie Jean King Cup, an all-women team competition that she won with Switzerland in 2022, which is quickly approaching.
In a recent interview, she said: “I’m extremely excited to compete in Hamburg and very grateful for the wild card. The timing of my comeback fits very well. My goal for this year is the Billie Jean King Cup in November, and I’m happy to test my level at the Hamburg tournament beforehand. The timing of my comeback fits very well. We also want to see how we can logistically manage everyday life at the tournament with Bella.”
