Paula Badosa announced the end of her 2024 season and withdrew from the Japan Open, citing health concerns. Earlier, she pulled out of the Wuhan Open an hour before her matchup with Ajla Tomljanovic.

Badosa participated in the Ningbo Open and advanced to the semifinals before declaring the end of her season. She chose to take a medical timeout, and after being examined by the medical staff, it was announced that she had been forced to retire from the match, allowing Daria Kasatkina to win 6-4.

Badosa made the announcement of her 2024 season on her Instagram story just one day after this match, stating medical issues. She said she was looking forward to getting well soon and was proud of herself for achieving her goals.

She wrote: “Because of health issues, I wasn’t able to play yesterday and won’t be able to play Tokyo unfortunately. My 2024 season has ended. Has been a very long season where I overcame situations I thought were impossible. I’m very proud of myself. I’m back where I wanted to be and where I was aiming since my comeback. (one of the best players in the world again) Already looking forward to recovering well and preparing to represent my country in Malaga for BJKC. Thank you for the support always. See you soon.”
