Musetti on recent success, fatherhood and Sinner’s doping case

During the UTS event in Frankfurt, Lorenzo Musetti discussed his success this summer, how fatherhood affected his tennis, and his countryman Jannik Sinner's doping case.

Musetti Pumped Up

Lorenzo Musetti talked about his success this summer, the impact fatherhood had on his tennis, and his countryman Jannik Sinner’s doping case at the UTS event in Frankfurt.

Musetti defeated Gael Monfils 27-11, 17-12, and 22-14 on Friday to cap off an exciting opening day at UTS Frankfurt, making his dream UTS debut.

The Italian player advanced to the Wimbledon semifinals and took home the bronze at the Paris Olympics.

Musetti talked about it and said: “For sure, this has been my best season so far. From the start of the grass season until the Olympics, it was a crazy time. It goes really fast. You have to enjoy the moment. When I won the medal, I felt strong emotions; it was really emotional on the podium alongside Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic. At that moment, I realised what I had achieved. Now I have it inside me, but I can’t recreate the moment.”

Musetti says fatherhood changed him: “I deal differently with things on and off the court. Being a father can help a lot, also on a tennis court. I felt that on my skin. The patience you need as a father, you can compare it with the patience you need on the tennis court.”

Musetti will play with his countryman Jannik Sinner in the Davis Cup. In recent months, Sinner’s doping case has garnered international attention.

He talked about it and said: “It is WADA’s view that the finding of no fault or negligence was not correct under the applicable rules. WADA is seeking a period of ineligibility of between one and two years. WADA is not seeking a disqualification of any results, save that which has already been imposed by the tribunal of first instance.”
