Emma Raducanu talked candidly about how school and tennis dominated her early years. The British celebrity admitted that she was jealous of the parties she was unable to attend, but she also understood that she couldn’t miss what she hadn’t experienced because she had never been to one.

In 2018, Raducanu became a professional and took home her first title in an ITF $15K competition. Her career high point was winning the US Open in 2021 at the age of 18, shattering multiple records.

She was the first player in the Open Era to win a major as a qualifier and the first British woman to win a major singles title in more than 53 years. In November 2022, she received an MBE in honour of her historic victory.

Raducanu’s early start and sacrifices demonstrate her dedication, which is crucial for success like this. Raducanu talked about feeling envious of parties she was unable to attend in an interview with Women’s Health that was published on October 10.

She talked about it and said: “There were certain moments where I felt envy—like when there were parties that I couldn’t go to, but at the end of the day, I didn’t know any different. You don’t miss what you don’t know. I knew I wanted to be the best, and I knew what I needed to do to get there, so I didn’t think of it as a sacrifice.”

She added: “Newstead [a selective girls’ grammar school in London] is pretty demanding, so it wasn’t like I could take it easy off the court, either. I put all my time into tennis or school, but it was good to have those two different worlds: school and tennis. Each was a break from the other.”
