As Jannik Sinner awaits the outcome of an appeal that could see him banned for failing two doping tests, the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA) is advocating for a legal defense fund to assist players in similar situations. Co-founded by Novak Djokovic, the PTPA argues that the Grand Slams and both the ATP and WTA Tours should finance access to third-party legal support. This would ensure that all players, regardless of their ranking or financial resources, have fair representation in doping cases.

Sinner, the current world No. 1, tested positive for the banned substance clostebol earlier this year but was initially cleared of fault by an independent tribunal. However, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has appealed the decision, seeking a one- to two-year ban. The PTPA believes a legal defense fund would help avoid situations like this, where some players struggle to afford proper representation, potentially jeopardizing their careers.

The PTPA sees this fund as a critical step in leveling the playing field and providing all players with a fair shot at defending their cases, whether they are top-ranked stars like Sinner or lower-ranked players without deep financial resources.
