Roger Federer had many “foes” in his illustrious career, but his rivalry with Rafael Nadal has always been unique. The Swiss Maestro is on the losing side regarding the head to head matches against the Mallorcan (11-23), and he will never forget that Wimbledon final in 2008 when the Spaniard managed to usurp his throne after what many consider the best match in tennis history.
Why Nadal was my biggest rival. FEDERER
During a recent interview with the Guardian, Roger commented “For me he has been the greatest rival. It could still change if I play Novak another few times in bigger matches. Novak and I have obviously had really big matches, but somehow the match-up with Rafa will always stay unique- because of the Wimbledon final in 2008.”
I was never good enough for him at the French Open
Then Roger admitted “Sometimes I was outplayed, sometimes I was close, but was never good enough to beat him at the French. But I never lost hope or faith that could happen. He’s a lefty-all that spin; we’ve not seen spin like that before. I had to change so many things to match him.” The Maestro won the French Open only when Rafa was upset by Soderling in 2009.
Do you think this was the biggest rivalry in tennis history?
