Jannik Sinner recently shared his thoughts on his challenging victory over Ben Shelton at the Shanghai Masters. The match was a thrilling encounter that went down to the wire, with Sinner emerging victorious with a score of 6-4, 7-6 (1).
Sinner described the match as “very tough,” highlighting the difficulty of facing Shelton’s powerful serves. Shelton managed an impressive 95% first-serve percentage in the opening set, making it incredibly challenging for Sinner to find his rhythm. Despite this, Sinner remained patient and focused, waiting for the right opportunities to strike.
In the deciding set, Sinner adopted a more aggressive approach, which ultimately paid off. His ability to stay calm under pressure and adapt his strategy was key to his success. Sinner’s victory not only advanced him to the quarter-finals but also improved his head-to-head record against Shelton to 4-1.
Reflecting on the match, Sinner emphasized the importance of staying positive and learning from each experience. His determination and resilience were on full display, showcasing why he is considered one of the top players in the world.
As Sinner continues his journey in the Shanghai Masters, fans and analysts alike will be keen to see how he builds on this hard-fought win and whether he can go all the way to lift the trophy.
He commented: “It was very tough. He played only first serves, except one second serve. I tried to wait a little bit. Obviously playing against him, even if it’s a second serve, it’s very tough to return.
“But if I look the positive picture, how I ended the match, I tried to stay a bit more aggressive, which I’ve done, and this hopefully can give me confidence for the for the next round.”
