Carlos Alcaraz shared details about his physical state at the 2024 Shanghai Masters shortly after Jannik Sinner acknowledged feeling physically exhausted following his victory in the third round. Only a few days have passed since their thrilling match in the China Open final, in which the Spaniard prevailed 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-6(3). Now the two are competing in Shanghai.

In the Shanghai Masters, Sinner and Alcaraz have both advanced to the fourth round. After a two-hour and forty-nine-minute match, World No. 1 Sinner overcame a set down to defeat Tomas Martin Etcheverry 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-2.

Sinner revealed during his post-match press conference that the difficult fight had taken a physical toll on him and stressed the importance of giving recovery top priority before his fourth-round matchup.

Sinner said: “I’m just happy to be part of these kind of matches as always and, you know, it’s, for sure, was something good. But also it’s important for me that the day for tomorrow, I have one day off, which I need to recover, it’s, for me, trying to prioritize this kind of thing now, and hopefully be ready for after tomorrow.”

The Spaniard was asked if he was feeling physically tired like Sinner during his post-match press conference.

The 21-year-old said he was in some pain, but added that this kind of discomfort was common for tennis players and that he felt fantastic all around.

Alcaraz said: “Well, I’m feeling great. Honestly, I’m feeling some pain in some parts of the body, but what is normal for tennis players, you know, we have to deal with it. I’m feeling great. I think we both have different styles on the court. I mean, today he played a really intense match, long rallies, long match. So, for me, the last two matches have been not really tough physically, you know, in terms of physically.”
