Coco Gauff is convinced that her triumph at the 2024 China Open was fueled by the “good luck” she shared with Carlos Alcaraz during a pre-tournament sightseeing trip. The two stars visited Beijing’s Forbidden City, the historic royal palace, where they dressed in traditional clothing, posed for photos, and even hit tennis balls in the palace courtyard. Alcaraz won the men’s singles title shortly after their visit, while Gauff, who was still in the round of 16, hoped the fortune would extend to her as well.

During a press conference, Gauff joked about their visit, saying, “Somebody asked if it would give us luck. I didn’t want to jinx it, but it worked for Carlos, and now here I am.” She went on to win the women’s title, making it a successful journey for both players.

The duo’s visit to the Forbidden City turned out to be a memorable and symbolic moment, solidifying their victories in Beijing.
