Behind the scenes at the Shanghai Masters, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz were reunited. Alcaraz enters the competition having just won a title in Beijing, while the Serb is participating in his first competition in nearly a month.
Before the tournament, the rivals crossed paths in the hallway and had a heartfelt moment.
Since their unexpected early eliminations at the US Open, Djokovic and Alcaraz have not participated in the same tournament. Alcaraz was eliminated in the second round, and the 37-year-old was taken aback in the third.
Backstage cameras captured them catching up as Djokovic mentioned how much more tennis the Spaniard had been playing than he had in the Shanghai Masters draw.
While shaking hands, Djokovic said in Spanish: “Little titan. You’re too much on the court, I’m outside of the court.”
Both players laughed as Djokovic admitted he was enjoying his limited schedule and said: “I’m enjoying my time off the court man.”
