Carlos Alcaraz has revealed how participating in the Davis Cup and Laver Cup helped him regain his “joy” on the court after his surprising exit from the US Open in August. The reigning French Open and Wimbledon champion was a title favorite but suffered a shocking straight-set defeat to world No. 74 Botic van de Zandschulp, marking a low point in his young career.

Since that defeat, Alcaraz has been on an impressive winning streak, guiding Spain to the Davis Cup Finals and leading Team Europe to victory in the Laver Cup. He also recently clinched the China Open title, defeating Jannik Sinner in a thrilling final.

Reflecting on his journey back to form, the 21-year-old Spaniard stated, “Those competitions helped me a lot to get the joy back on the court and being focused on what’s next.” As he enters the Shanghai Masters as the third seed, Alcaraz is eager to continue his momentum, facing home favorite Jerry Shang in his next match.
