Jannik Sinner, the world’s top-ranked tennis player, remains “very confident” in his ability to avoid a doping ban despite the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) recent appeal to impose a suspension of up to two years. Sinner tested positive twice for an anabolic steroid in March, but an independent tribunal ruled in his favor, accepting his claim that the substance entered his body accidentally through a physiotherapist’s spray.
WADA has now taken the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), aiming to overturn the decision. Sinner, while surprised by the appeal, stated: “I had three hearings which went my way… I’m very confident it comes out positively.”
The situation has unsettled Sinner, especially with the case potentially dragging into the Australian Open, where he’s set to defend his title. However, the Italian can continue competing as the appeal progresses.
