Paula Badosa has addressed the controversy surrounding her and Karolina Muchova’s withdrawal from the China Open doubles event after defeating Irina Khromacheva and Anna Danilina in the first round. Khromacheva publicly criticized Badosa, accusing her of taking the place of doubles specialists and then withdrawing without respect for other teams.

Badosa responded by highlighting that people often judge without understanding the full situation. The official reason for the withdrawal was Muchova’s wrist injury, a concern she has dealt with all year.

“People judge without fully understanding anything,” Badosa stated in response to the backlash, defending her actions. Both players continue to compete in the singles draw, with Badosa set to face Zhang Shuai in the quarter-finals.
