Carlos Alcaraz stated on Thursday that the rigorous tennis schedule had left him with little time to celebrate winning the China Open because he had to leave the stadium right away to catch a plane to the ongoing Shanghai Masters.

After an exhausting three hours and twenty-one minutes on Wednesday night in Beijing, Alcaraz defeated world No. 1 Jannik Sinner, but by midday, he was in Shanghai for a press conference.

The 21-year-old has previously declared that the men’s tennis schedule will ruin us and that we must take action, but he appeared to temper his remarks on Thursday.

Alcaraz talked about it and said: “The tennis schedule is so, so tight, we’re travelling from tournament to tournament with just one or two days before the tournament begins, so it is difficult, but we have to get used to it.”

He informed reporters that he would only have time for a press conference and a quick shower before rushing to the airport because he had to bring all of his luggage to the stadium before the Beijing final.

He added: “I just did everything in a rush. We arrived here in Shanghai super late so I couldn’t sleep as much as I wanted.”

On Saturday, Alcaraz will take on Shang Juncheng in his opening match of the competition. Last month, Juncheng won the Chengdu Open, making him just the second player from China to win an ATP Tour singles title.
