Djokovic and Berdych to clash in the semis – 2012 ATP Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters – Video

So the first semis will be Djokovic-Berdych. Let’s see what happened.

NOLE
Novak was obviously meant to get to the semis, but there was a little surprise in it. Nole’s draw got a bit lighter.
Super Novak was supposed to have a very difficult draw with Dolgolopov or Tomic in the second round (and he had to cope with a very tricky Dolgolopov). Then he was meant to play Ferrer or a very inspired Monaco in the quarters and both of them fell in their first match (Monaco for a bad injury and Ferrer badly defeated by an inspired Bellucci).
Then Novak was meant to play Murray that according to the first round was in ominous form. Andy was defeated  by Berdych that is still very dengerous, but ot as much as Andy. This was the good news (maybe…) for Djokovic

Yesterday Novak played Haase and that was a very easy 6-4 6-2 for the Serb in 77 minutes.
Still struggling because of the loss of his dear grandfather, Nole commented “Today was a bit better, but still a lot of emotional ups and downs throughout the match. But look, I’m playing tennis. I’m very satisfied that I was able to compose myself and get on the court and try to win matches. I got to the semi-finals, which is big result for me under the circumstances.I was very close to him, so it was a big loss for me and all the family. But he’s with me, I know that, in spirit. I’m remembering only the nicest memories, and that’s what gave me strength to play yesterday and today.”

Talking about his next match with Berdych “He’s a threat to anybody on any surface. Big groundstrokes, powerful serve. He knows what it feels like to play on the big stage. He had a great match against Andy today. Hit incredible shots from baseline. It’s a big challenge for me to see if I’m able to keep the focus throughout the whole match because this is the only way I can actually get a win against Tomas. We’ll see if that’s going to happen. I’ll give my best.”

TOMAS
Tomas played a great match against Murray (Is his partnership with Lendl bringing anything to the party?). The Czech was very good to regroup after losing the first set at the tie break squandering 5 set points in the 12th game of the first set to win the next 2 sets 6-2 6-3. The remarkable statistics of this 2h 48m battle was that Tomas had 16 break points (he managed to convert only 5) while Andy had only one (not converted).

Talking about his next match vs Nole. “I’m going to do everything the same like I do before every game. It’s a day to play the No. 1 player in the world, which is always great. It’s a semi-final, which is fantastic. But still, I want to play my best tennis and I want to do well. I just want to focus for myself and do the best on court,” added Berdych. “The last time I played him [at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals last year], I needed just one point to beat him and finish it. Didn’t happen. So now could be another try.”

“He played better,” said Murray. “I mean, I hung in, in the first set. He had some chances on my serve. Then in the tie-break I got a few lucky bounces. He missed a couple of shots that he hadn’t been missing. At the start of the second set it was where he obviously started playing better and my level dropped clearly, as the result, the score line, suggests.”
