On Wednesday, Novak Djokovic expressed his hope that the doping case of world No. 1 Jannik Sinner would be settled quickly while yet again criticizing the inconsistencies of the tennis anti-doping system.
Tennis authorities cleared Sinner of any wrongdoing and permitted him to continue competing despite his failure to pass two doping tests in March. However, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) announced on Saturday that it had filed an appeal and was requesting a two-year ban.
Speaking at a press conference during the Shanghai Masters on Wednesday, the former world number one admitted that the Italian must be facing a pretty hard time.
Djokovic stated his remarks about it and said: “There are too many inconsistencies, too many governing bodies involved. The whole case around Sinner is not helping our sport at all. I think Jannik has won all three appeals so far, it must be really tough for him, his team and his family.”
He added: “I hope we can get back to tennis. It is impressive what Jannik is doing throughout this process. He is playing at a very high level, winning Slams and most of the matches he plays. Whatever is going to happen at the end of the day, just I wish for it to be resolved as soon as possible.”
