Top-ranked Jannik Sinner defeated home favourite Bu Yunchaokete 6-3, 7-6 (3) on Tuesday to advance to the China Open final against rival Carlos Alcaraz.

Together, Sinner and Alcaraz have won four Grand Slam championships this year. Sinner doesn’t think that recent history will have an impact on Wednesday’s final, despite the fact that Alcaraz leads the head-to-head series 5-4, including victories at both of their meetings this year.

The 23-year-old Italian hasn’t shown any signs of being phased out despite the World Anti-Doping Agency’s announcement on Saturday that it plans to seek a one- to two-year ban for the U.S. Open winner, who tested positive twice for anabolic steroids in March.

Sinner talked about their encounter in the China Open final and said: “It’s going to be a tough match. We know each other very well now, but every match is different, so the situation on the court is also a bit different than it was in the last two matches. But let’s see. I’m happy to be here again in the final.”

They are both positioned to lead the sport going forward and have already developed into full-fledged superstars. Tennis matches are not the only kind of matchup between the two. These are spectacles, full of suspense and events akin to a heavyweight boxing match. This Wednesday’s China Open final match between them won’t be any different.

Sinner added: “My season is going very, very well and playing finals is always a great moment. I hope tomorrow is going to be a good match for both of us.”
