Daniil Medvedev, known for his intense on-court demeanor, delivered a memorable rant during his China Open semifinal clash against Carlos Alcaraz. As the two top-seeded players battled it out, tied at 5-5, Medvedev became frustrated when technical issues prevented a replay of a crucial shot.
Seeking clarity on the call, Medvedev was told that the Hawkeye system was unavailable for review. The 2021 US Open champion didn’t hold back his frustration, launching into a rant directed at the tournament organizers. “Why does the ATP pay Hawkeye then? Hawkeye sucks, no? Don’t trust Hawkeye. Not my sponsor,” Medvedev vented, questioning the reliability of the system and its cost to the ATP.
Medvedev’s outspoken nature and passion on the court are well-known, and his latest outburst once again highlighted the competitive drive that fuels his game, even in the face of adversity. Despite his efforts, the Russian went on to lose the semifinal to Alcaraz, but his fiery personality remains a talking point.
