Novak Djokovic finally wins the Roland Garros, and he completes his coveted career slam.
The world no.1 wins the French Open for the first time after reaching his 4th final in Paris. The final against an in-form Murray was extremely tricky especially after the Scotsman won the opening set (6-3). The beginning of the 2nd set was crucial as Nole managed to regroup quickly and get a fast 3-0 lead. That made things easier from a psychological point of view; Nole was confident he could turn the table quickly, and in no time the Serb flew to a 3-6 6-1 6-2 5-2 lead with all the public backing him. The battle was not over yet; Djokovic failed to serve out the match (5-3) and Murray held the following game (5-4). On his serve, the world no.1 raced to a 40-15 lead to procuring two match points, but he looked completely blocked to lose both with a couple of (very) tentative shots. Finally, Djokovic found his way soon after when Murray ditched in the net the 3rd match points. Djokovic won the match 3-6 6-1 6-2 6-4.

Nole seemed unable to breathe during the last points of the match to comment “In the last point I don’t even remember what happened. It was really one of those things, moments where you just try to be there. It’s like my spirit left my body, and I was just observing my body. A thrilling moment. One of the most beautiful I have had in my career.”
… I needed to find my rhythm at the beginning.
Djokovic commented “I needed a little bit of time to really find the right rhythm and to start playing the way I intended, which happened at the beginning of the second and practically until 5-2 in the fourth set. It was flawless tennis. I really felt like I played high quality and put a lot of pressure on Andy’s serves.”
After this win, Djokovic wins his 12th slam, two shy from Nadal and Sampras and five from Federer. The world no.1 is now holding all slams, and he will try to win a Calendar Slam. Last year, Nole missed it because he lost the Roland Garros final (he won the other three slams). This year he didn’t lose in Paris, so…
