Muguruza wins the Roland Garros!

Garbine Muguruza makes history after winning the Roland Garros. The 22-year-old beat was absolutely fearless in the final against Serena Williams to hold nerves in the crucial moments.

Probably the most important moment of the match was when Garbine managed to win four consecutive games to reverse the score from 4-5 deficit to 7-5 1-0 (1 break up) lead. Even if Serena wasn’t at her very best, she refused to go down without a fight, and once again she demonstrated her amazing fighting spirit when she saved four match points when she was 4-5 down in the second set. The American couldn’t do much soon after as Muguruza held serve at love to win her first slam.

Muguruza. I can’t explain what today means to me…

Garbine was visibly emotional during the press conference to say “I can’t explain with words how this day means to me. You work all your life to get here. I want to really congratulate Serena because she’s one of the best players.”

… I said to myself to just go for it

During the on-court interview, Garbine explained the secret of her win in the final “I think we both were very nervous. I was really going for the match, so I was not really thinking of who I have in front or where I’m playing.

I was just like, ‘Come on, go for the match.’ I just said ‘Garbine be calm, don’t get nervous.’ I practiced all my life for this, so you know, that’s the moment.”

Will Muguruza win more slams?
