Bellucci upsets Ferrer. Berdych and Tipsarevic to the next round – 2012 ATP Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters

Incredible stuff in Monte-Carlo.

Thomaz Bellucci badly upsets last year finalist David Ferrer in slightly less than 1 hour. David was meant to be one of the four players that could win this year’s title (after Novak, Rafa and Andy). So nobody expected this result… Novak may be happy about it (he was on a collision path with Ferrer in the quarters)

To be fair, the Brazilian is in top form. He dispatched Anderson in the previous match in style and he managed to replicate a bold and effective tennis also with Ferrer.

‘I didn’t play very well,’ said Ferrer. ‘But my opponent, he was better than me in the first and second set, in every moment. I made lots of mistakes. I am not fast. He plays very aggressive, very consistent. He was better.’

Bellucci will face Haase (6-4 6-4 to Fognini) in the next round.

Berdych had some trouble to defeat Cilic. The first set was quite tight to win it a at the tie break (at 3). Then Marin’s tennis went down a bit to give the second set to the Czech 6-1. Tomas played the ‘Hot Shot’ of the day (video above)
Berdych will play the next match against Nishikori (6-4 6-2 to Mathieu)

Tipsarevic keeps on playing a solid tennis. At the peak of his career, the Serbs is completely at ease on the dirt to concede only 5 games to Albert Montanes (a clay specialist) – 6-2 6-3. Janko will play tomorrow against Simon (6-3 6-0 in 1 hour to Frederico Gil of Portugal).

Other results:
Benneteau – Melzer 6-4 6-3
Almagro – Starace 7-6 (3) 6-1
Wawrinka – Andujar 7-5 6-3
Kukushkin – Volandri 7-6 (8) 2-6 6-2

Tomorrow we have 2 tasty matches:
Djokovic – Dolgolopov
Tsonga – Verdasco
