Alexander Zverev has revealed that his recent withdrawal from the China Open is due to a pneumonia diagnosis, shedding light on the health struggles he has been facing in recent months. The 27-year-old German tennis star, who participated in the 2024 Laver Cup despite visible physical discomfort, shared that the illness has been affecting his performance and overall well-being.

“Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with pneumonia, which explains the difficulties I have had physically in recent months. I have to take care of my health first so that I can compete again as soon as possible,” Zverev stated.

He expressed disappointment in missing the China Open and acknowledged the support from his fans, particularly in Beijing. Zverev, who has already had a demanding season, emphasized the importance of prioritizing his health to return stronger in future competitions.
