After being included in Spain’s Davis Cup quarterfinal squad, Rafael Nadal is expected to make a comeback to the game in 2024.
When the 22-time Grand Slam champion plays the Netherlands in November in the round of eight, he will be paired with Wimbledon champion Alcaraz and fellow countrymen Pablo Carreno Busta, Marcel Granollers, and Roberto Bautista Agut. Nadal last participated in competition at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, where he partnered with world No. 3 Alcaraz to represent Spain in the men’s doubles.
Nadal and Alcaraz advanced to the quarterfinals, but Rajeev Ram and Austin Krajicek defeated them.
The 38-year-old participated in the Paris men’s singles tournament as well, but Novak Djokovic ultimately prevailed and eliminated him. The Netherlands will present a formidable challenge to Rafael Nadal’s team when the Davis Cup returns in November.
Spain advanced to the quarterfinals after taking first place in Group B, and the Netherlands advanced after placing second in Group A. After he posted on social media that he wouldn’t be able to give it his all at the Grand Slam, Nadal was forced to withdraw from the US Open in 2024.
Additionally, he was not selected for the Laver Cup in 2024, citing his desire to step aside for the good of the team. Four times in his illustrious career, the Spaniard has won the Davis Cup.
