Carlos Alcaraz hopes to have a rivalry with Jannik Sinner that is as legendary as that which Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer shared.

In addition to winning the most ATP Masters titles, topping the ATP Rankings, and sharing 66 Grand Slams between them, the Big Three of Djokovic, Nadal, and Federer dominated men’s tennis for more than 20 years.

But that rivalry is over now that Federer retired in 2022, Nadal has battled injuries for the last two years, and Djokovic has played fewer events.

When the Big Three’s reign of dominance came to an end, many worried that tennis would fall behind. However, Alcaraz and Sinner rose to the occasion, leading the way over the previous two years.

Alcaraz is a four-time Grand Slam winner, having added this year’s French Open and Wimbledon titles to his 2023 Wimbledon trophy and 2022 US Open title. The Italian, who won the Australian Open and US Open this year, currently holds the top spot in the ATP Rankings.

In their head-to-head match, Alcaraz leads 5-4. They have also provided entertainment on the court.

Alcaraz recently talked about his emerging rivalry with Sinner and said: “Well. A lot of people talk about it and I hear it. I’m not going to lie; I hope so. I hope that our rivalry is going to be or almost be like the Big Three had during their whole careers. I don’t know. This is the first year that we shared all the Grand Slams. Hopefully, it’s going to keep going like that, sharing great moments, fighting for the great tournaments—the Grand Slams, Masters 1000.”

He added: “So let’s see how it’s going to be in the future if we are going to stay like that at this level. I think we are going to build or create a relationship off the court as well. So hopefully I have him here on the tour for a long time because he pushes me to be a better player every day. He pushes me to practice at 100% just to try to beat him in the next matches. It’s great and we’ll have that rivalry that the Big Three had in their careers.”
