Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated Thanasi Kokkinakis 6-1 6-4 in the Laver Cup second match, giving Team Europe the lead. However, during the press conference, the Greek tennis player made a number of insightful remarks on significant subjects, including the value of Roger Federer to the European team.

Tsitsipas talked about it and said: “It is a huge advantage that we have. Roger is definitely in our team. He himself does not want to reveal it, but we all know that he is there whenever we need him for the important moments, and this is a small advantage that we carry with us. They may have Rod, but we have Roger.”

On the value of the Laver Cup, Tsitsipas said: “For me, the Laver Cup is that honorary tournament that allows you to play and that makes you proud to have been selected to be part of the roster and the team. It goes beyond just the points, because you’re chasing points all year, and this is a week where you’re dedicated to playing your best tennis because obviously it’s already an honour to be part of the team and you want to maximize it as much as possible. I actually feel more excited for competitions like the Laver Cup, probably than other tournaments during the year.”

According to Tsitsipas, the Laver Cup excites him more than any other competition all year long.

The world No. 11 is competing for Team Europe this weekend in Berlin. He made his debut in the men’s team event back in Geneva in 2019. He has participated in four of the seven editions of the competition.

He is currently the only player to have won more singles matches at the Laver Cup than Roger Federer and Alexander Zverev, with a 4-1 win-loss record.

In addition, he disclosed that he gets more thrills from the Laver Cup than anybody else after defeating Kokkinakis.
