After competing in the team event for the first time, Carlos Alcaraz has shared his initial thoughts on the Laver Cup. In the doubles on Friday night, world No. 3 and Alexander Zverev were defeated by Ben Shelton and Taylor Fritz of Team World.

Even though Alcaraz’s Laver Cup campaign got off to a bad start, he was happy to see Roger Federer among the spectators.

Alcaraz hadn’t seen the 20-time Grand Slam winner since 2019 up until this point. Alcaraz, then sixteen, trained with Federer at Wimbledon, where the Swiss player eventually made it to the championship match.

This week, they were reunited in Berlin. And Federer’s first-ever chance to witness the four-time Major winner in action was Friday night’s doubles match.

Alcaraz talked about this feeling after the match and said: “Well, it was great, honestly, playing in front of him. It’s the first time that he watched one of my matches in real life, and I’m really happy that he was there, you know, watching our doubles. As I said, he watched a doubles match. Well, I think I’m good but I’m not as good as the singles, I guess.”

He added: “I hope to see him tomorrow in the singles. I hope he enjoyed the doubles match. Obviously, it was great seeing him in the practice. He didn’t tell me any tactics, or any advice, but I mean, he just told me that he’s really happy about watching me in real life and that I’m here. So it was a great time for me that, I mean, I wish that moment for a long time, so it was a really good time.”
