Padel, a sport that has been gaining popularity all over the world, is now aiming for the Olympic stage. Adrian Lee, the head of the Hong Kong, China Padel Association (HKCPA), says there’s a lot of pressure to include padel in the Brisbane Games of 2032. Though there is still much work to be done, Lee thinks the sport is headed in the right direction to achieve Olympic inclusion requirements.

Padel, which is frequently compared to a combination of squash and tennis, is still relatively unknown in Hong Kong. Lee, nevertheless, is upbeat about the sport’s future because it meets a lot of the requirements to be an Olympic event. The 2032 Summer Olympics in Brisbane have been designated by the International Padel Federation as a possible venue for the sport’s debut.

Hong Kong is fielding a team of ten athletes to compete in the inaugural Asia Pacific Padel Cup in an effort to strengthen its position. Teams from the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia will compete for the top spot in this tournament. It is anticipated that the competition would highlight the region’s burgeoning padel talent and excitement.

In order to qualify for the Olympics, Lee underlined the necessity of one mission and centralized governance. He was optimistic that padel may soon be played at the Olympics if enough countries and athletes participated. Incorporating the sport will not only improve its standing but also serve as an inspiration to a global generation of athletes.
