Roger Federer has shared his thoughts on navigating retirement and his role at the Laver Cup ahead of this week’s event in Berlin. Speaking to reporters, Federer, who retired from competitive tennis at the Laver Cup in London two years ago, discussed how staying involved in the sport has helped him avoid feeling like an outsider.
“I’m happy I went back right away to some tournaments,” the 43-year-old Federer said. “I feel I ripped the Band-Aid off quite quickly and when I walk around the tennis sites I still feel I belong there.”
Federer also praised the new generation of players, including Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, and looked forward to the Australian Open. He expressed optimism about Novak Djokovic’s chances and shared insights on Rafael Nadal’s uncertain return.
Regarding German player Alexander Zverev, Federer noted that Zverev needed to be more aggressive in crucial moments to win a Grand Slam.
With Team Europe looking to reclaim their dominance after two consecutive losses to Team World, Federer’s continued presence as an ambassador underscores his ongoing commitment to the sport.
