Ons Jabeur has announced the immediate withdrawal of her 2024 season. The world No. 22, who withdrew from the US Open and the Olympics, has had a difficult year.

The Tunisian player has not participated in any matches since losing to Naomi Osaka in the Canadian Open’s opening round last month. She made the tough decision to leave the tennis circuit, and she now intends to return to Australia at the start of 2025.

Jabeur’s injury history has plagued the season. She entered the year ranked sixth in the world, but since then, her physical problems have caused her to withdraw from multiple tournaments early and drop out of the top 20.

In order to give herself more time to heal, the 30-year-old has now made the decision to end her season completely.

She recently wrote in her Instagram story: “This year has been extremely hard for me and, as athletes, we know that recovery is part of the journey. Due to my ongoing shoulder injury, my medical team and I’ve made the difficult decision to step off the tennis circuit for the rest of the season.”

She added: “While I’m taking time to heal, I’ll be dedicating myself to charity work and ensuring that we make a real difference in the world. Thank you for all your support, and I can’t wait to come back stronger! And I will see you back on the court in Australia in 2025.”
