Rafael Nadal has acknowledged that following his withdrawal from the Laver Cup, he is not in a position to commit to any more tournaments.
Nadal registered for the Berlin event, but he withdrew from the Laver Cup, raising more questions about his future as a professional.
The 22-time Grand Slam winner has only participated in seven events this year and was predicted to retire at the end of it, but he has made hints that he might play in the following one.
Nadal recently talked about it and said: “I’m at home, enjoying other things, training as much as I can every day. No drama, obviously these are decisions [the Laver Cup withdrawal] that are being made, and this was a possibility – it’s been a while without competing. There will be someone else who can do better. Right now I’m not in a position to put myself down for anything. I said [I would play] until the Olympics and then we would see, and I’m in that period of rest.”
In his most recent competition, Nadal competed in the Olympics and lost to Novak Djokovic in the third round. He also advanced to the quarterfinals in the doubles competition with Carlos Alcaraz.
Nadal’s objective is to possibly participate in some way in the Davis Cup quarterfinals in Malaga later this year.
