After winning their singles matches against France in Valencia on Friday, Carlos Alcaraz and Roberto Bautista Agut guaranteed Spain a spot in the Davis Cup final round.

With back-to-back major victories at the French Open and Wimbledon, as well as an Olympic silver medal at the Paris Games, Alcaraz has had another incredible season.

In the second singles match, the world No. 3 player, who is playing in the Davis Cup for the first time since September 2022, defeated Humbert 6-3, 6-3 to secure the win.

Alcaraz talked about it after the win and said: “The level that I played from the beginning to the last ball, I was really focused, really intense. It was probably one of the best matches I have played this year and after my last month I need these kinds of matches.”

By himself, Alcaraz would not have been able to lead Spain to the Final 8. Even so, the enduring Bautista Agut is also responsible for the Spaniards’ qualification for the Davis Cup finals, which will take place in Malaga in November.

Alcaraz talked about Bautista Agut and said: “He’s a great fighter. To beat him, you need incredible mental strength. He spent three hours running from one side to the other against Fils, who has an incredible physique, and he never collapsed. Today’s match (Friday) should be shown to all kids who want to play tennis. He’s an example of self-transcendence, exemplary attitude and resilience. Watching his match gave me great motivation for my own.”
