Emma Raducanu’s strategy has come under scrutiny from Kim Clijsters following the British player’s early exit from the US Open.

Later on, the 21-year-old broke down in tears and acknowledged that she ought to have participated in more games before the year’s last Grand Slam. However, she passed up qualifying matches in Cincinnati and Canada.

The US Open champion Clijsters has criticized Raducanu and her group for their choices and potential misdirection. Raducanu won his first match at Flushing Meadows three years ago as a qualifier, but he hasn’t won one since. She had surgery last year, which prevented her from competing, and she has lost twice in the first round.

In the most recent episode of his podcast, Andy Roddick hinted that her schedule was a problem following her defeat by Sofia Kenin in her opening match. Additionally, Clijsters, who was a guest, asserted that Raducanu or her team was to blame.

Clijsters talked about it and said: “There are two things that I think could be the reason. It’s either not having the right people around you who kind of guide you and say, ‘Okay, this is important to you, like the scheduling, or building enough weeks off in between, like training blocks to improve, to switch off mentally. Or is it her? Are there other things going on mentally where she’s kind of just had it with media, pressure, whatever it is? It’s only those two things that could be the cause.”

She further said: “I don’t know enough about her. I don’t know her personally, I don’t know her team, and I really don’t know much about that whole situation. I’m sorry but if you have a team of coaches around you or whoever is in charge, there’s obviously some misguidance there.”
