Novak Djokovic, the 24-time Grand Slam champion, is reportedly planning an exhibition event in Mexico, following in the footsteps of tennis legends like Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. The exhibition is expected to take place at the Monumental Plaza de Toros Mexico after the conclusion of the 2024 tennis season.

This move would mark a shift from Djokovic’s typical post-season routine, as he usually opts for extended rest before gearing up for the Australian Open. However, with his lifelong dream of winning an Olympic singles gold medal now fulfilled after defeating Carlos Alcaraz in the 2024 Paris Games, Djokovic seems open to taking part in more high-profile exhibition matches.

Reports from Mexico’s Esto.com suggest that Djokovic may also tour Latin America, potentially facing Juan Martin del Potro in Argentina. Though his opponent for the Mexico match has yet to be confirmed, anticipation is already building for what could be a thrilling event.

In recent years, Mexico has become a hotspot for lucrative post-season exhibitions, with stars like Federer, Nadal, and Alcaraz drawing massive crowds. Federer and Alexander Zverev’s 2019 match at the same venue set a world record attendance of 42,517, while Federer and Nadal broke that record with their 2020 exhibition in Cape Town, South Africa.

As Djokovic gears up for the Latin American tour, his schedule remains packed. He is set to compete in the Davis Cup for Serbia, the Six Kings Slam in Saudi Arabia, the Shanghai Masters, and potentially the ATP Finals, depending on qualification. Fans in Mexico and beyond eagerly await the confirmation of Djokovic’s participation in these exhibitions, which promise to be memorable events.

“I’m always looking forward to new challenges, and this seems like an exciting opportunity,” Djokovic reportedly said in conversations about the event, reflecting his openness to a different post-season experience.
