Controversial Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios has again accused US Open champion and current world No. 1 Jannik Sinner of doping.
Sinner tested positive for the illegal anabolic steroid clostebol twice in as many days, on March 10 at the Indian Wells tournament and again eight days later.
The Italian was given a provisional suspension, but he was able to appeal the decision and continue competing on the ATP tour while the International Tennis Integrity unit reviewed all of the available data.
However, not everyone was convinced, as Kyrgios voiced doubts about the choice in multiple social media posts.
Now, controversial media figure Piers Morgan has weighed in, sharing a photo of Sinner alongside the hashtag #USOPEN for Men’s Singles Champion.
Morgan captioned the image: “After failing TWO drug tests. (Fixed it for you).”
Kyrgios commented on Morgan’s post, saying: “First time in history! We are witnessing greatness!”
It follows after Kyrgios’ remarks about his ex-girlfriend Anna Kalinskaya sparked outrage, with some tennis fans demanding that the Australian firebrand be fired from his commentating job.
Kyrgios has been a vocal opponent of Sinner in recent weeks, arguing that the player ought to be suspended following two positive drug tests.
Sinner explained that the substance that was prohibited had entered his system because his physiotherapist, Umberto Ferrara, had treated a cut on the tennis player’s finger with a spray that contained clostebol.
