Nick Kyrgios has ignited controversy with a comment about his ex-girlfriend, Anna Kalinskaya, who is now dating world No.1 Jannik Sinner. In response to a 2020 photo of himself and Kalinskaya at an LA Lakers game, Kyrgios posted “Second serve” on X, which many interpreted as a disparaging remark.

The comment drew significant backlash, with calls for ESPN to remove him from his commentary role at the US Open. Tennis commentator Jon Wertheim and journalist Ben Rothenberg criticized Kyrgios for his history of inappropriate comments and behavior.

Kyrgios defended himself, arguing his comment was not meant to be abusive and challenging those who took offense. “Abusive? What’s abusive about what I said?” Kyrgios responded, insisting he had no intention of offending anyone.

Additionally, Kyrgios has publicly criticized Sinner over a doping controversy, which has further fueled the debate. Despite Sinner’s successful appeal against a provisional suspension for a banned substance, Kyrgios believes the process was unfair compared to other players’ experiences.
