World No. 1 Jannik Sinner advanced to the semifinals after beating Daniil Medvedev to continue his pursuit of a first US Open championship. After an anti-doping scandal, Sinner entered the tournament under constant alert. In an interesting quarterfinal, Sinner defeated Medvedev, winning 6-2, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Although the Italian player did not play at his peak, he will gain confidence from winning what some saw as the coveted prize. Sinner is now the overwhelming favourite to win a second grand slam championship in addition to defeating Draper in Friday’s semifinal.

Sinner was questioned about how he managed to maintain his concentration on the tennis game despite everything that had been going on, particularly his most recent doping case.

Sinner discusses how he stayed focused in the wake of the doping scandal in the post-match press conference and said: “I have my team and my people who are close to me. You know, they know me, they know I always stick with the people who know me and believe me. It’s a very important part. And obviously, I’m very happy to have them, you know, coach-wise and also off the court. Yeah, obviously in the beginning was a bit, was a tough situation, but, you know, day by day it went better. So yeah, I’m happy about that. Let’s see now in the semis what I can do.”
