Karolina Pliskova revealed that she had recently had surgery for an ankle injury she sustained during the US Open. After taking a strange step with her left foot, the 32-year-old gave up after just three points in her match against Jasmine Paolini in the second round.
In the first game, Paolini was serving and the scores were tied at 15–15 when Pliskova seemed to roll her ankle trying to change course. She eventually lost the point, hobbled off the court, and went to the hospital.
After some time, Pliskova said she was done and returned to the Arthur Ashe Stadium locker room. She revealed on Instagram on Wednesday that she had undergone surgery to fix the injured tendons in her left ankle.
Pliskova shared a picture of herself in a hospital bed with the caption, covering her left foot with a protective boot. She wrote: “Happy to share that I successfully underwent surgery on the tendons in my left ankle. I’ll do everything I can to get back on the tennis courts as soon as possible, but health always comes first. A huge thank you to the medical team for their excellent care and to all of you for your support.”
