Tennis fans were displeased with Zheng Qinwen’s frosty handshake with Aryna Sabalenka following their quarterfinal match at the 2024 US Open. A number of them contended that Zheng’s actions support Emma Navarro’s contentious claims regarding the rudeness of the Chinese people.
After a few hours, Zheng took Sabalenka to court, everyone was still thinking about Emma Navarro’s remarks. The world No. 2 defeated the opponent 6-1, 6-2 in a rematch of the Australian Open final this year, securing his spot in the semifinals at Flushing Meadows for the fourth consecutive year.
Zheng shook hands with Sabalenka quickly and grimly, not even looking at the Belarusian, looking upset about her heartbreaking defeat.
Sabalenka responded with a cheeky expression that was clearly visible on camera when Zheng gave the Belarusian player the cold shoulder during their customary handshake, as captured in a video that was posted on X. As expected, the 26-year-old responded to the situation, but remarkably, she remained calm and continued to enjoy her victory.
