Alexander Zverev wins a great match in Nice to beat Gilles Simon after saving two match points and recovering a 3-5 deficit in the decider. There were two critical moments in this encounter: first, in the breaker on the second set when Simon saved two consecutive match points when he was 4-6 down; then, in the 3rd set when it was Zverev to save two match points when he was 4-5 15-40 down. Eventually, the German won 6-3 6-7 (6) 7-6 (1).
This is the 3rd time new three months that Zverev beats Simon after Rotterdam and Indian Wells.
Zverev. I had to win in straight sets
Sasha commented “Playing against Gilles is always tough, especially on this surface. He played quite well to save two match points in the second set. Unfortunately, I couldn’t win in straight sets, but I did well to recover in the third. I’ve now played two three-hour matches back-to-back, so I’ll see how I feel tomorrow.”
The semi. Zverev vs. Sousa
Sasha will play Sousa in the semifinal. They have never played each other, but the German may struggle with his fitness.
