In response to Chris Evert’s comment that Karolina Muchova ‘plays like a guy’, the Czech player recently posted a statement. Evert had expressed his opinion about Muchova’s play style earlier, comparing it to that of a male tennis player.
The American former player, who has been commentating for ESPN, caused a great deal of controversy when he claimed that Muchova played like a ‘guy’. Fans and tennis players like Ons Jabeur criticized her for her stereotyping.
Evert said: “She plays like a guy. She wants to play like a guy. The guys have bigger serves than the women; they have better volleys for the most part, and they move a little bit better.”
Muchova has now responded to the eighteen-time Grand Slam winner after defeating Anastasia Potapova in the US Open’s third round in 2024. She said she was at a loss for words when trying to respond to Evert’s comments during a press conference.
Muchova talked about it and said: “I don’t think I play like a man. I don’t know what to say about that. I don’t know exactly what Evert said, but obviously, I have been inspired by players like Roger Federer or Novak Djokovic for my game and I like to follow what they do. Still, I was not prepared to answer this question.”
