Serena Williams seems to be the talk of the town at the US Open 2024, despite some interesting matchups on Saturday. In Flushing Meadows, the 23-time Grand Slam winner was spotted having fun during Jannik Sinner’s third-round match. But by neglecting to watch Caroline Wozniacki compete, Serena appears to have offended her longtime opponent.
In the third round of the current Grand Slam, Wozniacki defeated France’s Jessika Ponchet 6-3, 6-2. Even though the Dane’s performance was outstanding, her remarks in the post-match interview won the fans over.
In a lighthearted post-match interview, the 34-year-old stated that she was upset with the American legend for not attending her match because she thought she was watching Tommy Paul play at Louis Armstrong Stadium.
The reporter asked Wozniacki: “Serena is back at the US Open today. Are you gonna catch up with her a bit later?”
She replied: “I hope so. I’m gonna text her. I’m pretty mad at her for not showing up at my match I saw she was watching Tommy. We have to talk about that a bit.”
However, Wozniacki appears to be unaware. Serena did not attend Tommy Paul’s game at Louis Armstrong Stadium. Instead, she was watching world No. 1 Sinner play at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Even though Wozniacki and Serena had a fierce rivalry on the tennis court in the 2010s, they eventually became close friends. They have both been based close to Miami for a long time.
