Aryna Sabalenka copies Alexei Popyrin’s historic move from his most recent match, sharing a playful moment with her partner while the Australian caused a major upset.
In the third round of the US Open, Popyrin defeated Novak Djokovic, creating history. The spectators watched in amazement as the two played a fantastic match and advanced to the tournament’s R16. Against the Serb, the Australian player had a tremendous game and scored a fantastic point.
In the fourth set, Popyrin broke Djokovic’s serve at 2-2, and he couldn’t help but celebrate this incredible moment on the court by adopting an unusual victory stance. He gave a champion’s bow to express how thrilled he was with the outcome. Djokovic is known for his famous attitude when he yells while hitting a ball and continues to do so until he bags the point. Popyrin’s victory gesture highlighted this trait. Popyrin became excited about the momentum and mimicked Djokovic’s gesture.
Sabalenka was watching this important moment alongside her boyfriend, Georgios Frangulis. She was mimicking Popyrin’s gesture twice while conversing with Frangulis. Sabalenka showed Frangulis how to strike the pose correctly, even though he also attempted it.
