In a shocking turn of events during the 2024 US Open, Stefanos Tsitsipas shocked his girlfriend and doubles partner Paula Badosa by slamming his racket on the court. The incident happened on August 30 during their 6-7(3), 4-6 loss to the Mexican pair Santiago Gonzalez and Giuliana Olmos in the first round of mixed doubles.

Badosa didn’t seem to like the criticism that Tsitsipas received for his absurd outburst during the US Open in 2024. In the couple’s mixed doubles match, the Greek tennis player lost a point and expressed his annoyance by throwing his racket to the ground.

At the US Open, Badosa and Tsitsipas played their first official mixed doubles match. Notably, Badosa and Tsitsipas hit the court shortly after the former’s exciting comeback victory over Elena-Gabriela Ruse 4-6, 6-1, 7-6(8) in the third round of the singles tournament.

Badosa jokingly said during her on-court interview: “I had a long match now and I was even thinking for sure. Stefanos is watching and he’s like, ‘Oh, now she’s going to be tired of the mixed doubles. He’ll have to do all the work today.”

Tsitsipas did not fare well in the singles competition at the US Open in 2024. The Greek star was defeated in the first round by Thanasi Kokkinakis 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-3, 7-5. Following his second-round exit during the National Bank Open, the Greek star had recently dissolved his coaching relationship with his father Apostolos.

Even though Tsitsipas prevailed in the second set to tie the score, he eventually lost in four sets due to an abdominal problem. This setback signified the continuation of his difficult Grand Slam run in 2024.
