Carlos Alcaraz defeated Australian Li Tu on Tuesday in an attempt to add the US Open to his already impressive trophy collection, which also includes Wimbledon and Roland Garros. Alcaraz won 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, and 6-1.

Carlos Alcaraz extended his winning run at the Grand Slam to 15 matches in an attempt to become one of the few men in the modern era to win the US Open, Wimbledon, and French Open all in the same year, along with Rod Laver and Rafael Nadal.

He had a fast start, taking the first set 4-0 and winning it easily. However, Tu, who advanced from qualifying, prevailed in the second set after adjusting to the formidable Arthur Ashe Stadium and Alcaraz’s serve.

He made an effort to maintain pressure in the third, but Alcaraz’s break for a 4-3 lead let loose a storm, as the Spaniard won eight games in a row to win the third set and take a 5-0 lead in the fourth.

However, Tu remained resolute, preserving two match points before Alcaraz concluded the match with a love service game.

Alcaraz talked about it and said: “I’m really happy to get through and get a chance to be better the next round. Obviously, I felt well on the court. I think I hit the ball well. I moved well. A few things that I have to improve if I want to, you know, keep going in the draw, but obviously, I have to give credit to him as well that he played really good tennis and today surprised me a little bit in the second set.”

He added: “After the first set, I made just two unforced errors; in the second set, I made 18. He started to play better. That’s obviously serving better, playing more aggressively, and not making a lot of mistakes that he did in the first set. But talking about myself, it was from two to 18 unforced errors, which has been a huge difference for me.”
