Fritz Interview

As the U.S. Open’s second round kicks off, top tennis players vie for Grand Slam glory in New York. Among the intriguing matchups is the highly anticipated clash between third seed Taylor Fritz and Italian Matteo Berrettini, set to take place at Louis Armstrong Stadium.

Fritz, who has previously defeated Berrettini in their three prior encounters, acknowledges the challenge posed by the big-serving Italian. “In the head-to-head I’ve been able to get him, but it’s always been really close, as it always will be, because both of us are big servers,” Fritz commented. “It’s going to come down to how we perform … If someone comes up with something on a big point, it’s small margins when there’s two people with big games playing each other.”

Berrettini, who has been dealing with injury setbacks over the past two years, enters the season’s final Grand Slam as an unseeded player. Despite the challenges, he remains focused on his goal. “It’s going to be a tough match but that’s why I’m training. That’s why I’m working really hard this season, to come back at this level,” Berrettini said.

In addition to this exciting matchup, third seed Coco Gauff will continue her title defense against German veteran Tatjana Maria. Novak Djokovic will also return to the evening session at Arthur Ashe Stadium to face fellow Serb Laslo Djere. American players Frances Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz are determined to end a 21-year wait for a homegrown men’s champion in New York.

As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on Fritz and Berrettini, who are set to deliver a thrilling contest in their quest for US Open success.
