Finally, Genie Bouchard!
The Canadian beauty wins a great match against the world no.2 Angelique Kerber. Genie started the match in incredible fashion to get a fast 6-1 3-0 lead (2 breaks up in the second set); then, after the match was on a 4-2 score line for the Canadian, Genie dropped her level, and Kerber won 7 of the following 8 games to lead 1-6 7-5 2-0. Bouchard managed to break the German for another couple of times to win 6-1 5-7 7-5 after 2 hours and 20 minutes.
Bouchard. I had to do better in the 2nd set
During the press conference, Genie shared her thoughts about her performance “For sure I’m happy to win, but at the same time I’m disappointed in myself having a lead like I had, you know. I feel like I could have done better in that second set,” Bouchard commented. My goal next time is if I’m in a position like that is to really be more mentally disciplined and keep pushing. Because, you know, these players, if you give them a chance they will come back.”
Next vs. Strycova
Genie will play Strycova in the 3rd round. The head to head is 3-1 for the Canadian, 1-all on clay.
