Carlos Alcaraz hurt his right ankle on Saturday during a U.S. Open practice, but he didn't seem concerned that it would keep him from playing in the season's last Grand Slam event.

Alcaraz Talking

Carlos Alcaraz injured his right ankle during a training session for the U.S. Open on Saturday, but he expressed no concern that it would prevent him from competing in the year’s final Grand Slam event.

However, Alcaraz is starting his quest for a second US Open championship in that situation. He is drawn into the same half as Jannik Sinner, the top seed, with Novak Djokovic, the number two seed, looming large on the other side.

The 21-year-old, who has won two Wimbledon titles and one Roland Garros, feels that the surface and location enhance his abilities more than any other.

He talked about it in a recent interview with Tennis.com and said: “I love playing on hard courts. Playing here in New York suits my game and my personality very well. The people here are passionate about tennis; they have a lot of energy that they bring to the matches and to the court, and I love it. So probably here is where I play some of my best tennis.”

Alcaraz would be the seventh person to win three Slams in a single calendar year if he prevails at Flushing Meadows once more.

Alcaraz added: “Honestly, I don’t know what juniors can learn from me. Probably the joy that I’m playing with. It seems like I don’t feel the pressure at all. I play all the points in the same way. Being aggressive, having no fear of going to the net. Hitting big shots. I’m going to say that.”
